BBDW 11 [Black Butterfly] - Nevereverland

Section 11 (UNEDITED)

“If anything had happened in here, I’m sure someone would know, but no one knows where they are? This is so obvious.”

“Yes, someone must be lying.”

Walking out of the well-organized garden, Jude nodded. Two people from the same family were extremely unlikely to be caught by the kidnapper at random in other places outside. That’s two days apart, too. That means it narrows down to neighbours, relatives, and family. However, if everyone is like “I don’t know” all along, then there is a person who hides their evil intention with a friendly mask.

“Let’s look at one house at a time. There must be something unusual.”

“Oh, it’s hot…… eh?”

Jude, who was sighing as he struggled through his not-so-short hair, stopped for a moment when he saw two children walking into the garden. A girl with neatly braided long brown hair and a slightly bigger boy came in holding her hand. The two children hesitated to come to the front of Jude and Tim, but after a pause in indecision, the boy soon opened his mouth.

“Well, who are you?”

“We’re cops, are you the children of this house?”

When Tim lowered his eyes on the same level as the boy with a soft smile and asked, the boy nodded slowly. He looks about eleven years old, and the girl probably three or four years younger than him.

“I’m Luke, and this is my younger sister Anne. Hey, are you here for Grandpa and Jane? Did you find them?”

“No, I’m sorry. We just got here because your mom called us. Now that I’m going to investigate, did anything unusual happen on the day your grandfather or Jane disappeared? Something different from usual or maybe someone hasn’t come back since they went somewhere.

The boy shook his head as he pondered hard, frowning his brows.

“No, I’m sorry. I don’t know. I went to school in the morning. But Jane’s school ends at a different time, so I don’t know.”

“……. Okay, I got it.”

“Jane and Grandpa went to heaven.”

With the slightly inarticulate pronunciation of the child that suddenly popped out, everyone’s eyes were on the little girl. Holding her brother’s hand tightly, the braided brown hair girl once again opened her cute mouth to everyone’s surprise and spoke clearly.

“Jane and Grandpa have gone to a good place. If it’s been so long since they’ve gone missing, they’ve already gone to heaven, Mr Melvin next door said, and he said they went to a good place.”

“Anne, stop it.”

As Luke shook her hand a few times, Anne looked up at Luke and filled her face with indignation. Her small lips pouted out.

“Really! That’s why everyone next door, Mrs Sarkozy's…”

“Stop it, Anne! I’ll tell Mom!”

At the sound of the boy’s screams, Anne turned red as her cheeks twitched several times. Tears quickly settled in her brown eyes. Tim hurriedly patted the girl on the head, saying, “Come on, don’t cry, you’re a good child,” and he said to Luke, “Take good care of your mom.” And while greeting goodbye, Jude was, ironically, already a certain distance from them.

Watching his friendly partner greet the children from the other side, Jude waved his hand halfheartedly and left the Rice Mansion before Tim did.

Tim then came running while shouting “Jude, hey, dude!” and slapped him on the back.
