Section 13 (UNEDITED)

The smell of medicine pricked depressingly in the nose. Leaning against the white hospital wall, Jude stared a little blankly at the ceiling. How come that happened to Tim? I’ve never heard him have a stomachache before. Did he eat something bad before the investigation? Jude thought this and that, as the sound of footsteps clattering down on his nerves neared him. As his head toward the ceiling jerked back to his original position, he surprised the woman doctor in front of him a little, and Jude asked, narrowing the gap between them.

“What happened?”

“Oh, yeah……it’s poisoning. Good thing you came in a hurry, he’s in good health, and it’s an acute poisoning that’s far below a lethal dose, so he’ll be fine."

Jude’s eyes widened at that statement. Poison? Poison? This is more absurd than the possibility of food poisoning.

“Poison?”

“Yes, the test showed arsenic, did you work in a factory?”

“…… we’re detectives?”

“Oh, did you happen to be in a factory or an abandoned factory for a long time to investigate?”

“…… we’ve never been, and if we had, I would have been poisoned too.”

The doctor, with a slightly incomprehensible face, tilted her head.

“That’s odd. Aside from being poisoned… Oh, did he ever overdose certain medicines at once, or did he eat fruit or something without washing it?”

“No, as far as I know. He’s never taken any medicine…… What he ate right before being carried here was just made by an old lady…”

Jude stopped talking as his head blanked in shock. Jude ran down the hospital stairs like a gale, as the doctor watched in wonder. Ignoring the barely sober doctor’s shout, “Come on, don’t run in the hospital!” - he ran full power to the parking lot and opened the car door, breathing hard.

What he urgently picked up and ran back to the doctor was a bag of cookies that still hadn’t cooled down. The fragrant smell was somewhat faint.
